ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ON) has launched a new power solution aimed at improving the energy efficiency of data centers. With the increasing power consumption of data centers to meet the demands of artificial intelligence computing, enhancing efficiency has become crucial. ON Semiconductor's latest generation T10 PowerTrench® series and EliteSiC 650V MOSFET combination provide a comprehensive solution for data center applications, demonstrating unparalleled energy efficiency and excellent thermal performance in a smaller package.

It is projected that the global electricity demand of data centers will reach approximately 1,000 terawatt-hours (TWh) in the next two years, with the energy required for engines powering artificial intelligence being over 10 times that of regular search engine requests. To address this challenge, ON Semiconductor's solution can reduce data center power losses by around 1%. If widely adopted by data centers globally, this technology could save around 10 TWh of energy consumption annually, equivalent to the yearly electricity usage of nearly a million households.

The EliteSiC 650V MOSFET offers outstanding switching performance and lower device capacitance, enabling higher efficiency in data centers and energy storage systems. Compared to the previous generation products, the new generation silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET has halved gate charge, with a 44% reduction in stored energy in output capacitance (Eoss) and output charge (Qoss). Additionally, the T10 PowerTrench series is specifically designed to handle high currents critical for DC-DC power conversion stages, providing higher power density and excellent thermal performance while meeting stringent automotive application standards.

Overall, ON Semiconductor's power solution not only meets the requirements of large-scale operators for the strict Open Rack V3 (ORV3) specifications but also supports the next generation of high-power processors. Simon Keeton, President of the Power Solutions Division at ON Semiconductor, stated, "Artificial intelligence and electrification are transforming our world, bringing significant power demands. By accelerating innovation in power semiconductors to enhance efficiency, ON Semiconductor is committed to providing sustainable energy solutions for the future."
